About Nyamira
Nyamira is a highland county in western Kenya. Its fertile land supports many small farms, and agriculture is central to local livelihoods.
Better processing, storage, market access and support for small businesses could help more households earn from what they produce.
What NPA does
Members work through professional groups, local and diaspora chapters, mentorship and partnerships. Their contributions may include research, policy advice, training, community projects and connections to investment opportunities.
Our areas of interest include:
- Education, skills and opportunities for young people.
- Primary healthcare, wellbeing and stronger health systems.
- Agriculture, food processing, cooperatives and small businesses.
- Roads, housing, water, energy and environmental protection.
- Technology, responsible use of artificial intelligence, research and innovation.

These are areas for professional contribution; specific projects and budgets will be developed and reported separately.
A proposed long-term vision
NYAMIRA2050
NYAMIRA2050 is a proposed long-term vision for the county, designed to guide development through 2050 and remain useful across changes in leadership. NPA initiated the vision design effort and is working toward a joint process with the County Government of Nyamira and the County Assembly of Nyamira.

How the vision will be developed
A Vision Design Team is expected to review county data and existing plans, study future trends, hear from residents, propose priorities and measurable outcomes, estimate costs and identify ways to fund the work. The team will also recommend who should lead, implement, monitor and report on each part of the vision. A draft will be reviewed and revised before publication.

Forums, interviews, surveys and written or digital submissions are among the proposed ways to take part. Dates and submission channels will be announced when confirmed.
Planned milestones

Organise the team, review evidence and assess future scenarios.

Consult stakeholders and develop the initial transformation framework.
- January 2027
Cost priorities, propose funding and governance arrangements, and validate the complete draft.
- February 2027
Planned publication and unveiling, followed by initiation of the County Assembly legislative process.
StatusThese are indicative targets in the concept note and terms of reference. The vision is still being designed; its final pillars, projects, costs and legal status have not yet been settled. A County Assembly Bill would require the applicable legislative process before it could become law.
How progress should be tracked
The proposed framework calls for clear outcomes, milestones and indicators, with regular progress reporting and public accountability.
Funding options to assess include public budgets, private investment, partnerships, development support and diaspora contributions. An implementation cost and financing plan will form part of the completed vision.
Leadership and participation
NPA’s board of advisors provides strategic guidance. Its executive leadership coordinates association activities and partnerships, while professional groups contribute technical expertise. The Diaspora Secretary connects members outside Kenya with NPA activities at home.
Young professionals and students can take part through mentorship, learning and leadership opportunities.
